(November 18, 2010) — Brady (www.bradyservices.com), a company that provides energy systems and comprehensive building solutions for commercial and industrial facilities across North Carolina, announced today Dr. Donald L. Martin, Jr., Winston-Salem/Forsyth superintendent, was the 2011 winner of the A. Craig Phillips North Carolina Superintendent of the Year Scholarship Award. Martin will serve as an adviser to the State Board of Education and be nominated for National Superintendent of the Year.

“These educational leaders represent the best of the best, but they also represent the 115 school superintendents who are responsible for leading the educational experience for more than 1 million boys and girls each day,” said Jim Brady, president of Brady.

This is the second year Brady has sponsored the award. Brady presented awards to Martin and 10 regional superintendent finalists during the North Carolina School Boards Association convention on November 16. During the ceremony, Brady commended the members of local boards of education and superintendents for their service, “You are constantly challenged by many demands and high expectations with increasingly tight budgets.  That challenge will continue for the foreseeable future.”

The regional finalists included:

  • Dr. Timothy J. Farley, Granville County Schools
  • Dr. Peter C. Gorman, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools
  • Dr. Darrin L. Hartness, Mount Airy Schools
