Chemours Leads Waste Heat Recovery Workshop at 2015 ICR

Workshop to feature presentations from industry partners on new ground-breaking heating and power generation technologies
enabled by Opteon™ MZ (R-1336mzz(Z)) low GWP working fluids

WILMINGTON, Del., August 18, 2015 – Chemours and its partners, the Austrian Institute of Technology, Chubu Electric Power Company, CPI Fluid Engineering, Panasonic and the Viking Development Group will be presenting at a workshop on August 19 at the 2015 International Congress of Refrigeration (ICR) held in Yokohoma, Japan.

The workshop, titled “Heating and Power from Low Temperature Heat,” will examine the potential for emerging Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) and High Temperature Heat Pump (HTHP) technologies. These technologies are capable of providing power and heating from low temperature heat with reduced cost and environmental impact.

Increasing awareness of the environmental impacts associated with the extraction and combustion of fossil fuels have led to a renewed interest in using abundantly available low temperature heat. Two methods to do this, ORCs and HTHPs, require the use of working fluids, such as Opteon™ MZ (HFO-1336mzz(Z)), to convert heat to mechanical or electric power, or to elevate the temperature of available heat to meet heating demands.

Based on hydrofluoro-olefin (HFO) chemistry, Opteon™ MZ has significantly lower global warming potential (GWP) and higher energy efficiency than previous working fluids. This helps these processes to meet the increasingly stringent climate protection regulations around the globe while still performing sufficiently to minimize investment payback time.
